God Bless America

As I am preparing for our 4th of July festivities, God Bless America has been ringing in my head. The lyrics are as follows:

God bless America
Land that I love
Stand beside her
And guide her
Through the night
With the light
From above

From the mountains
To the prairies
To the oceans
White with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home

As I reflect tonight during this post, I am so very grateful that America is my home sweet home! I am guilty of taking for granted of what living in America really means. There is so much to be thankful for, but most of all, I am grateful that I am able to worship the one true living God and attend one of the greatest churches ever! Thank God for freedom! Sure, times are uncertain, i.e., gas prices, politics, etc. etc., but I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else in this world.

The other day the boys and I went to pick Sam up from the airport. As I circled each time in waiting for his arrival, my attention was diverted to a group of anxious family members holding American flags. On about my 20th time around, a group of soldiers came out of the building and the crowd went wild. Each time I went around, I cranked my neck to see loved ones embracing and the others wildly waving their flags. It brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps all over. Once I picked up Sam, he took over the wheel and as we passed by the soldiers we honked the horn and I blew a kiss (yeah corny - so what! LOL). In return they beamed and waved at us. It was so touching. This leads me to thank all of the brave men and women that have fought and risked/lost their lives for my freedom, my family's freedom for your family's freedom. May God bless each and every one of them and their family members on this day.

I am so blessed to call America my home. Happy 4th of July!

Hey Monica-
I read Bart your blog today. Although I have been on the receiving end of welcoming my soldier home, whenever i see it, I still cry. He is always grateful for show of love and support of being an American Soldier. Thanks for making people aware of how good we have it here.
